TÜRK-SEN Challenges New Minimum Wage
The Cyprus Turkish Federation of Labor Unions (TÜRK-SEN) has officially objected to the minimum wage set on January 17, claiming it falls below the poverty line and fails to address the rising cost of living.
TÜRK-SEN President Arslan Bıçaklı criticized the decision, which was determined by state and employer representatives, stating that it condemns workers and their families to poverty.
"While politicians earning 250,000 TL receive an 11.12% increase corresponding to the four-month cost-of-living adjustment, minimum wage earners receiving 35,000 TL were denied even this increase," said Bıçaklı. He called for the minimum wage to be re-evaluated in line with current economic conditions.
