Kremlin Awaits Signal from US for Putin-Trump Meeting
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to meet with US President Donald Trump and is waiting for a signal from the US. Peskov made these remarks while discussing Trump's recent statements on the Russia-Ukraine war with journalists in Moscow.
Peskov emphasized the need for discussions between the US and Russia on nuclear arms control, noting that significant time has been lost on this issue. He pointed out that the responsibility now lies with the Americans, who have halted all important contacts with Russia.
Highlighting that the legal framework for nuclear arms control has been undermined by the US, Peskov reiterated that Putin is ready for a meeting and is awaiting a signal from the US. He added, "It's difficult to predict, but we will inform you as soon as there is any development."
Peskov also addressed Trump's claim that the Ukraine war would end if oil prices dropped, stating, "This conflict is not related to oil prices. It is happening due to threats to Russia's national security and the lives of Russians in certain regions, as well as the complete disregard of Russia's concerns by the US and Europe."
Regarding Trump's statement that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is ready for an agreement, Peskov commented, "Zelenskyy cannot be ready for an agreement because negotiations are required to reach one. Zelenskyy has banned negotiations through his own decree."
