LTB Mayor Harmancı noted that approximately 3.5 million non-TRNC citizens have crossed through the Metehan Border Gate and emphasized their long-standing demand for crossing points at every possible location in Nicosia.

Harmancı expressed hope that the momentum gained in discussions with the Greek Cypriot side regarding border gates would lead to concrete results and stressed the need to facilitate mutual crossings.

He also highlighted the importance of approaching the issue with goodwill and mentioned that any security gaps in transit crossings should be discussed at the table with mutually agreed measures.

Mayor Karavezirler of Değirmenlik-Akıncılar stated that the process for opening the Haspolat and Akıncılar gates has accelerated, with a meeting between the two sides scheduled for February 10.

Karavezirler said, "The process has accelerated, I see a light... I think the gates could open by September."

He emphasized that the opening of the Akıncılar Gate would remove the village from its 'dead-end' status and bring life to the community.
