Liman-Sen Conducts Three-Hour Work Stoppage at Famagusta Port
Members of the Kıbrıs Türk Liman ve Taşıt İşçileri Sendikası (Liman-Sen) staged a three-hour work stoppage at Famagusta Port, citing unhealthy working conditions and low service wages. Hür-İş Federation General Secretary Ali Yeltekin announced that if the issues are not resolved, they would begin an indefinite strike starting tomorrow. Liman-Sen members demanded immediate solutions, warning that services at the port would halt otherwise.
During the protest, Yeltekin highlighted that Liman-Sen workers were providing services under unhealthy conditions and receiving low service wages. To address these adverse conditions, the union members initiated the three-hour work stoppage.
Yeltekin noted that authorities had not adhered to the agreement, which aimed to improve workers' legal and social rights, as well as workplace health and safety. This led to the initial warning strike. He stated that if solutions were not found, cargo unloading from ships at the port would cease.
He urged the authorities to listen to their concerns and find solutions promptly. Otherwise, he reiterated that services at the port would stop, and they would proceed with an indefinite strike starting tomorrow.
