In his statement, Minister Dinçyürek highlighted the importance of increasing education and awareness about cancer, encouraging individuals to take action to prevent avoidable deaths.

Dinçyürek pointed out that risk factors such as tobacco use, being overweight, insufficient physical activity, low consumption of fruits and vegetables, and alcohol consumption contribute to one-third of cancer risks. He stressed that changing these factors and adopting healthy lifestyle habits can significantly reduce the risk of cancer.

He noted that the World Health Organization recommends screening programs for breast, cervical, and colorectal cancers, which are crucial for a comprehensive healthcare system. In Cyprus, the Ministry of Health's Early Diagnosis Cancer Screening Center and various health centers offer cervical and breast cancer screenings for women and colorectal cancer screenings for both men and women.

Despite significant advances in cancer diagnosis and treatment, Dinçyürek emphasized that cancer remains a major public health issue. He underlined the critical importance of early diagnosis in the fight against cancer and called on the public to participate in regular health screenings and protect their health.

Dinçyürek also mentioned that the international theme for World Cancer Day from 2025-2027 is "United by Unique," highlighting that while cancer patients' needs are unique, the challenges and treatment processes they face have commonalities.

"Fighting cancer is a marathon," Dinçyürek said, stressing the necessity of active public participation in this marathon. He emphasized the importance of accessing accurate information, protecting against risk factors, adopting healthy lifestyle habits, and undergoing regular screenings.

He concluded by saying, "Remember! It is possible to defeat cancer with early diagnosis and proper treatment."
