Harmancı: Kanlıdere Project Nears Completion
Nicosia Turkish Municipality (LTB) President Mehmet Harmancı has announced that the Kanlıdere Project, which he considers one of his biggest motivations, is nearing completion.
Harmancı revealed that they are approaching the realization of a project that has been dreamed of since 1980. Speaking on the "Objective" program hosted by Erçin Şahmaran on Kıbrıs Postası TV, Harmancı shared that they are on the brink of turning a major dream into reality.
Describing the progress, Harmancı stated, "For the Kanlıdere Project, we are almost there," highlighting that they are approaching the end of a long-envisioned project. He mentioned that there are details about the Kanlıdere Project that will be explained comprehensively soon.
February will be a significant month for them and will be groundbreaking for Nicosia, according to Harmancı. He added, "On the day we sign, we will announce all the details and will introduce a large area as a green space into our lives."
Referring to past discussions about the Presidential Complex, Harmancı said, "I don't want to go into those now, but we made significant efforts and fought to improve the region's infrastructure. The only unresolved issue is traffic, which will eventually be solved with the new alternative road."
"Presidential System Debates May Enter a New Phase"
Harmancı also mentioned that discussions about the presidential system might enter a new phase. He stressed, "More important than the new ambassador coming, the reason for the departure of the current ambassador should be explained to the public."
Reflecting on the last presidential election process, Harmancı emphasized that it should be a lesson for everyone, advocating for a focus on projects that will benefit the country. He noted, "After the buildings, I think we will enter a new phase in presidential system discussions," clarifying that this is not based on hearsay but a political climate assessment.
He highlighted Murat Başçeri as one of the most important figures of the Crans Montana period and pointed out that some people see this change as a sign of a new process. Harmancı expressed his belief that the presidential system will be more openly discussed in the coming period.
"Early Elections May Be in Early 2026"
Harmancı stated that Turkey does not want an election here until the presidential election, suggesting that early elections could be in early 2026. Reflecting on the country's state, Harmancı warned, "If we don't get ourselves together, there will be no country left to govern."
"Nicosia Should Be Considered as a Separate Package"
Harmancı asserted that Nicosia should be considered a separate package, insisting, "We have been persistent about the crossing gate for years." He emphasized that both municipalities of Nicosia are on the same page and that any new crossing gate should benefit both communities, not just support transit crossings.
Explaining their discussions with President Ersin Tatar about different alternatives, Harmancı stressed that Nicosia should be considered a separate package and that municipalities should not be used for show purposes before the elections.
"A Program and Vision Are Needed"
Regarding the presidential election, Harmancı said that being considered and deemed worthy as a presidential candidate is an honor. He emphasized the importance of the presidency and mentioned the need for a comprehensive program that foresees and encompasses various events triggered worldwide.
Harmancı concluded that the country's priority should be the nation's gain rather than partisan gains, stating, "This country needs a program and a vision; TDP is in a discussion process and will reach a point."
