63 Traffic Accidents in One Week: 1 Dead, 16 Injured
In the period between January 27 and February 2, a total of 63 traffic accidents occurred, resulting in 1 death and 16 injuries. Of these accidents, one was fatal, 10 resulted in injuries, and 52 caused material damage. The fatal accident claimed one life, while 16 people were injured in accidents that resulted in injuries.
The causes of these accidents included speeding (18), failure to stop at intersections (14), careless driving (12), tailgating (11), and other factors (8). The total material damage from these accidents amounted to 3,489,144 TL. Nicosia had the highest number of accidents with 24, followed by Kyrenia with 20, Famagusta with 14, Güzelyurt with 3, and İskele with 2.
During the same period, police conducted traffic inspections and checked a total of 12,803 drivers. Legal action was taken against 2,156 drivers for various offenses. Among these, 644 were fined for speeding, 393 for using a mobile phone while driving, 234 for speeding detected by mobile devices, 29 for careless driving, 63 for driving under the influence of alcohol, and 155 for driving without a license. As a result of these inspections, 220 vehicles were banned from traffic, and 5 drivers were arrested.
