313 Earthquakes in the Aegean Sea in the Last 24 Hours: No Risk Detected
Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) Director General for Earthquake and Risk Reduction, Prof. Dr. Aykut Akgün, reported that 313 earthquakes occurred in the Aegean Sea in the last 24 hours. The magnitudes of these tremors ranged between 1.8 and 5.2.
Prof. Dr. Akgün stated that a similar seismic activity intensity was experienced in the same region during 2011-2012, lasting for 14 months without leading to any volcanic activity. He emphasized that there are no concrete findings to develop a definitive opinion on the cause of these earthquakes and that any commentary without findings would be speculative.
Evaluating the precautions taken in Greece following the tremors, Akgün noted, "Countries take such actions as precautionary measures within the scope of emergency management strategies in these and similar situations. It should be seen as a natural and normal procedural application. The measures taken do not mean that the exact source of the event has been determined."
Regarding the earthquake risk in cities like İzmir and Muğla, Prof. Dr. Akgün stated, "There is no risk detected in these cities at the moment."
