Statistics Institute Announces January Cost of Living Increase at 2.02%

According to the General Consumer Price Index, prices increased by 2.02% compared to the previous month and by 50.61% compared to the same month last year.

In January, the highest price increase among major expenditure groups compared to the previous month was recorded in the communication group with 11.52%. Health expenses increased by 7.52%, various goods and services by 4.32%, housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels by 2.73%, food and non-alcoholic beverages by 1.39%, education by 1.38%, recreation and culture by 1.27%, restaurants and hotels by 1.26%, transportation by 1.13%, furniture, household appliances, and maintenance services by 1.02%, while alcoholic beverages and tobacco increased by 0.37%. The clothing and footwear group saw a decrease of 0.86%.

In January, the prices of 436 products increased, while the prices of 129 products decreased. The highest price increase was in passport acquisition costs, which rose by 60.18%. This was followed by pomegranates with a 39.22% increase and cauliflower with 38.49%. The highest price decrease was seen in national lottery tickets, which fell by 50%. The TRNC state lottery ticket decreased by 33.33%, and pumpkins by 31.22%.
