In a written statement, the family denied the allegations that Simon Mistel Aykut threatened Greek Cypriot leader Christodoulides via social media, describing the threat allegation as a political maneuver.

The statement accused the "authorities of the Republic of Cyprus" of playing games to cover up the inexcusable mistake of concealing Simon Aykut's health issues.

Addressing the claim that a phone was found in Aykut's cell, the statement mentioned, "The news later changed to 'found in the prison corridor' and finally to 'no phone was found.'"

The statement included the following: "Since his arrest, Simon Aykut has emphasized his innocence, and both he and everyone close to the matter are sure of this. Besides his innocence, his medical reports clearly indicate that he should not be held in prison." The statement noted that warnings and requests for examinations regarding Aykut's health condition were repeatedly rejected by the relevant court, and an independent doctor's examination revealed that he has cancer.

The statement concluded: "The allegation that our father Simon Aykut threatened Greek Cypriot leader Christodoulides is just a political game, like the essence of the case against him. The concealment of his health condition is a scandal that will go down in the history of Cypriot democracy and law as a black mark."
