Victims of February 6 Earthquake Remembered on Second Anniversary

In the "disaster of the century" with magnitudes of 7.7 and 7.6 centered in Kahramanmaraş, which affected 11 provinces, 49 TRNC citizens also lost their lives.

During the earthquake, the Grand Isias Hotel in Adıyaman became a grave for 72 people, including 35 Turkish Cypriot athletes, teachers, and families from the Famagusta Turkish Maarif College delegation who were trapped under the rubble. Famagusta lost a generation due to the earthquake.

The Champion Angels are commemorated with ceremonies and events on the second anniversary of the earthquake, which takes place tomorrow.

Families organized under the name "Champion Angels Remembrance Association" are not only fighting for justice but also working to keep the memory of their lost loved ones alive.

Commemoration Ceremony and Events

The Champion Angels Commemoration Ceremony will be held under the auspices of the Presidency tomorrow at 10:30 AM at the Famagusta Champion Angels Martyrdom. Following this, at 11:30 AM, the Champion Angels Commemoration Program will be held at the Famagusta Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Palace. The program will conclude with a performance by the TRNC Presidential Symphony Orchestra. A memorial service will be held for the Champion Angels at 4:30 PM at the Famagusta Polatpaşa Mosque.

As part of the commemoration events, memorial services will also be held for those from the Champion Angels delegation who lost their lives in the earthquake and whose graves are located in Yeniboğaziçi Martyrdom, Atlılar, Dörtyol, Vadili, and Ulukışla cemeteries.

The graves of Mülkiye Dağlı, Abide Dağlı, Nazife Dağlı, Osman Çetintaş, and Havin Kılıç will be visited at Yeniboğaziçi Martyrdom between 1:30 PM and 1:45 PM. Perihan Çetiner's grave will be visited at Atlılar Cemetery between 2:00 PM and 2:15 PM. Bedriye Yeniçeri and Ecem Yeniçeri's graves will be visited at Dörtyol Cemetery between 2:30 PM and 2:45 PM. İbrahim Yakula's grave will be visited at Vadili Cemetery between 3:00 PM and 3:15 PM. Finally, Kaan Selim İş's grave will be visited at Ulukışla Cemetery between 3:30 PM and 3:45 PM.

The Göçmenköy Sports Club will hold a commemoration ceremony for Amaç Arnavutoğlu, a board member and football player who lost his life in Hatay during the February 6, 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquake, at his grave in the Lefkoşa Cemetery at 10:00 AM tomorrow. A memorial match will be held at the Göçmenköy field at 6:00 PM.
