Ertuğruloğlu reiterated his stance that a negotiated solution to the Cyprus issue is not possible. He argued that the decades-long negotiation process on the Cyprus issue has reached an impasse. Referring to the statement by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who mentioned the lack of common ground in Cyprus, Ertuğruloğlu pointed out that no steps had been taken following this assessment.

“If the problem remains the same, and the recognition of the Republic of Cyprus, which is the biggest obstacle to the solution, continues to stand, what can we expect from the negotiations? Even the UN Secretary-General says there is no common ground, yet the process continues to be pushed forward,” he said.

On the recent discussions surrounding the opening of new crossing points, Ertuğruloğlu stated that he does not stand in the way of such a move: “If the gates are to be opened, let them open, I’m not an obstacle. But as of now, they haven’t been opened.”
