Over the past two days, five traffic accidents have occurred in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), with three drivers found to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. While one motorcyclist was injured, legal action has been initiated against the other drivers involved. Police investigations into the incidents are ongoing.

According to the Police Press Bulletin, five traffic accidents were recorded yesterday and today. Three drivers were charged with driving under the influence and causing an accident, while another driver faced legal action for driving an uninsured vehicle and being involved in a crash.
Motorcyclist Injured in Gönyeli Crash
At approximately 4:00 PM yesterday, a traffic accident occurred on Gönyeli Atatürk Avenue. Barış Hüseyin Polattemir (24), riding a YF 870-plated motorcycle, collided with an SB 342-plated vehicle driven by Gökdeniz Avcı (20) near the Zorba Petrol junction.
According to reports, Polattemir failed to exercise caution while approaching the junction, leading to a collision as Avcı was legally entering the avenue.
Following the crash, Polattemir was taken to Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Nicosia, where he remains under observation in the Neurosurgery Department.
Chain-Reaction Accident in Famagusta
Later that day, another accident occurred at 4:00 PM on İsmet İnönü Boulevard in Famagusta. Nihat Tatar (28), driving a JL 861-plated vehicle, lost control due to carelessness and crashed into a parked car belonging to Hakkı Altıntaş (41).
The impact caused Tatar’s vehicle to veer off and hit another parked car, a VS 371-plated vehicle owned by Ferit Esat (54). As a result, Esat’s vehicle struck a traffic island and a road sign.
Esat sought medical attention at Famagusta Medical Center and was later discharged. Meanwhile, Tatar was arrested for driving an uninsured vehicle and causing an accident.
Drunk Driver Crashes into Tree in Boğazköy
At 9:30 PM on Atatürk Avenue in Boğazköy, Emre Kara (26) crashed his FN 318-plated vehicle into a tree while driving under the influence. A breathalyzer test revealed a blood alcohol level of 207 milligrams.
No injuries were reported, but Kara was arrested for driving under the influence and causing an accident.
Alcohol and Carelessness Lead to Crash in Kyrenia
Early this morning, another alcohol-related accident took place on the Girne-Alsancak bypass. Efe Kosova (23), driving a KJ 664-plated vehicle westbound, lost control upon reaching the Karmi roundabout and crashed into an electrical panel on the roadside.
Kosova was taken to Dr. Akçiçek Hospital in Kyreniafor treatment and was later discharged. He was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence, with a recorded blood alcohol level of 182 milligrams.
Ongoing Investigations
Police investigations into all five accidents are ongoing. Authorities continue to warn against the dangers of drunk driving and reckless behavior, urging drivers to exercise caution on the roads.
