S Cyprus Police continue Probe into Bomb Threats Sent to Over 300 Schools

South Cyprus authorities are intensifying efforts to track the source of bomb threats that were emailed to more than 300 schools across the island on Tuesday. Although the threats prompted widespread evacuations, no explosives were found at any of the schools.

The threatening emails, written in Greek, were sent from a disposable account linked to a Russian provider. However, police have emphasised that this does not necessarily indicate the sender is in Russia.

Authorities are working closely with international law enforcement agencies, including Europol and Interpol, as similar threats have been reported in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Hungary.

Andreas Anastasiades, head of the cybercrime unit, confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that a crisis centre has been set up to manage the situation. Schools have been thoroughly searched, and the all-clear has been given for most institutions, but police continue to follow leads to identify those responsible.

The incident has drawn comparisons to a similar hoax last year, when bomb threats were also made to schools but later found to be false. Authorities are now focused on determining whether this is another case of a hoax or if there are more serious motives behind the threats.
