Speaking on Gökhan Altıner ile Sabah Postası on Kıbrıs Postası TV, Oğuz stated that the perception of unrestricted entry is misleading. He detailed that among those denied entry were 760 from Iran, 580 from Pakistan, 504 from Turkey, 441 from Iraq, 334 from Somalia, 336 from Turkmenistan, 273 from Afghanistan, 179 from Uzbekistan, 143 from Sudan, 120 from China, 120 from Nigeria, 114 from Georgia, and 102 from Kyrgyzstan, with the remaining individuals from various other countries.
"Not Everyone Entering the Country Commits Crimes"
Oğuz emphasized that those denied entry had legally purchased tickets but were not permitted to enter. "We cannot expel every foreigner who enters the country—these people are not all criminals," he said. He also noted that many foreign nationals contribute to the local economy, adding, "There are people who come here, fall in love with Northern Cyprus, buy homes, and settle."
"Public Order Is Crucial"
Referring to an incident on the Lefkoşa-Gazimağusa highway where a driver and passenger were found unconscious in their vehicle, Oğuz stated that the cause was still unknown but assured that police were investigating. He underscored the government's commitment to minimizing such incidents through strict penalties.
"If There Is Evidence of Money Laundering, It Should Be Published"
Addressing allegations that auto dealerships in Northern Cyprus are involved in money laundering, Oğuz challenged those making the claims to provide evidence: "If anyone has documents or information, they should release it. They can report it to us or the police. If anyone is laundering money, they will be punished accordingly."
"High Demand for Third Phase of First Home Loan Package"
Oğuz also provided updates on the government's First Home Loan Package, which was recently expanded to a third phase. He noted significant demand for the initiative, which helps citizens purchase homes at low interest rates.
He acknowledged that rising real estate prices, fueled by property sales to foreign buyers, have made homeownership more difficult for Turkish Cypriots. "Thanks to Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, the First Home Project was launched, and we are now moving into its third phase," he said, adding that many citizens have inquired about future expansions of the program.
