People's Party (HP) leader Kudret Özersay announced that a request from Serdal Gündüz, a shareholder of Cyprus Health and Social Sciences University (KSTU) who is currently in prison, to meet with him had been denied.

According to a statement from HP, Özersay noted that Gündüz had previously expressed his desire to meet with him through the press, a request that could have been legally accepted. “However, despite submitting a written request to meet in prison, the relevant authorities rejected it,” Özersay said.
“We do not yet know which authority made this decision,” he continued.
Özersay elaborated:
“When an individual under trial in the fake diploma scandal expressed through the press a desire to meet with us, we stated that if he formally requested a meeting within legal boundaries, we would be open to it. We have now learned that this individual submitted a written request for a prison meeting, but the authorities—whether the Ministry of Interior or the Prison Administration, I do not know—denied the request.
Following this development, the individual in question withdrew his request to meet and instead opted to wait for his court date. This raises serious questions. Why did the authorities deem this meeting inappropriate despite there being no legal obstacles? Is someone trying to suppress certain information? Why did this individual withdraw his request after initially insisting on a meeting?
We do not know who is negotiating with whom behind closed doors, but we are certain that those currently in custody and facing charges are not the only ones involved in the fake diploma scandal. There are others freely walking outside who are also connected. We will continue our efforts to ensure this matter does not remain hidden.”
