Driest January in 50 Years Recorded
The Meteorology Department has announced that January 2025 was the driest January in the last 50 years.
According to data covering the period from 1975 to 2025, only 6.0 mm of rainfall was recorded in January 2025. In comparison, the average January rainfall between 1991 and 2020 was 74.9 mm.
The significant drop in precipitation has raised concerns over climate change and drought in the region.
