President Tatar: ‘I Will Closely Follow the Outcome of Tragic Donkey Killings'

President Ersin Tatar has issued a statement regarding the killing of 14 donkeys in Karpaz, expressing his belief that those responsible will be swiftly identified and brought to justice.

According to the Presidency’s statement, Tatar emphasized that he would closely follow the investigation, stating, "I have full confidence that the perpetrators of this shocking crime will be promptly identified by the police and brought before the judiciary."
Tatar expressed his sorrow over the deliberate shooting of 14 donkeys, which have become a symbol of Karpaz and the country. "This heinous act has deeply wounded my heart, as it has for every person with a conscience," he said.
Comparing violence against animals to violence against women and children, Tatar stressed that society must raise its voice against such brutality. He noted that the strong reaction from the public provided some solace in the wake of this tragedy. "The Turkish Cypriot people love both animals and humans. The public’s response to this cruelty is proof of that," he added.
Highlighting the importance of the Animal Welfare Law, enacted unanimously by Parliament on March 4, 2013, Tatar called for stricter enforcement to protect animal welfare. "I have full confidence that the police will swiftly identify the perpetrators and ensure they face justice. As President, I will personally follow this case closely," he concluded.
