Erhürman Sets Four Conditions for Cyprus Negotiations

Erhürman who is regarded as front-runner of the TRNC 2025 Presidental elections, stated that Greek Cypriot Leader Nikos Christodoulides does not inspire confidence. “I don’t believe in his sincerity, but I am not acting with prejudice either. Hopefully, our initiatives will steer him toward a solution,” he said.

Emphasizing that the most critical aspect of the negotiations is political equality, Erhürman stressed that this is not an empty concept. He outlined four fundamental conditions that CTP insists on before returning to the negotiation table:

1. Acceptance of rotating presidency at an informal meeting.
2. A clear timeline for the negotiations before sitting at the table.
3. A results-oriented approach to the process.
4. A commitment from the start that if talks collapse due to Greek Cypriot reluctance, the current status quo will not be reinstated.

Erhürman pointed out that these conditions align with those set by the United Nations and urged the UN to stand by its own words. He stated that if Christodoulides accepts these conditions, progress toward a solution could be made. Otherwise, the Greek Cypriot leader would no longer be able to maintain the perception that he genuinely seeks a resolution.
