Stefanu: The Greek Cypriot Side Must Take the Initiative in the Cyprus Issue
AKEL General Secretary Stefanos Stefanu emphasized that the Greek Cypriot side must take the lead in efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue. He also stated that his party's priority remains the solution to the Cyprus problem and accused President Nikos Christodoulides of disregarding some of the proposals AKEL put forward.
According to reports from Haravgi and other newspapers, Stefanu reiterated his party's position on the Cyprus issue during an event attended by AKEL.
Stefanu asserted that a solution to the Cyprus issue must be based on political equality, a bi-communal, bi-zonal federation. He pointed out that in 2020, AKEL submitted several proposals to the Greek Cypriot government, but Christodoulides, like his predecessor, ignored these suggestions.
He further added that any solution to the Cyprus problem should "liberate the country from Turkish occupation and unite Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots."
