Afik Group: Treatment of Simon Aykut is Unacceptable

Afik Group has condemned the treatment of businessman Simon Aykut, who is currently detained in South Cyprus, describing it as unacceptable and degrading to human dignity.

In a statement, the company highlighted the inhumane and disrespectful treatment that the 74-year-old cancer patient faced during an MRI examination.
According to the statement, Aykut was transported to the clinic under heavy security, accompanied by eight officers in patrol vehicles, and treated as if he were a war criminal. He remained handcuffed throughout the medical procedure, and the officers' behavior toward him was described as unnecessarily harsh.
The statement also pointed out that individuals attempting to bring breakfast for Aykut were denied entry to the clinic, with their food being discarded while officers ate their own sandwiches without offering him anything. The overall treatment he received was characterized as severe and demeaning.
Additionally, a translator was reportedly prevented from entering to assist Aykut, which Afik Group described as a violation of basic human rights.
The company condemned the treatment of an elderly and critically ill individual, stating that such exclusionary behavior was unacceptable and a stain on human dignity. "This conduct paints a ruthless picture of hostility toward the Turkish side, tragically burdening a single individual with the consequences of such mistreatment," the statement concluded.
