UN Briefs Parties on Geneva Summit

The leaders of the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot communities, Ersin Tatar and Nikos Christodoulides, have been briefed by the United Nations (UN) regarding the upcoming 5+1 informal conference set to take place in Geneva.

According to information obtained by Kıbrıs Postası, the summit will commence at midday on March 17 and conclude in the evening of March 18. The UN Secretary-General’s office contacted both leaders last night to provide details about the conference, which will be formally announced later this week along with the official invitations.
The meeting is expected to be held at the Palace of Nations in Geneva, with Greek Cypriot political parties also set to follow the developments from Geneva.
Presided over by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, this summit marks the first high-level engagement on the Cyprus issue in 4.5 years and is considered a crucial step in diplomatic efforts. In addition to the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot leaders, the island’s three guarantor powers—Turkey, Greece, and the United Kingdom—will also attend the meeting at the ministerial level.
