Solyalı: TRNC Ranks 140th in Corruption Perception Index
Republican Turkish Party (CTP) MP Ürün Solyalı has drawn attention to the latest corruption perception report, stressing that trust in state institutions has collapsed and calling for urgent public sector reform and stronger oversight mechanisms.
Speaking on the issue at today's parliament quorum, Solyalı referenced a report prepared by Ömer Gökçekuş and Serhat Sonan, highlighting the severe impact of corruption on social justice and the misuse of public resources.
"This report lays bare the broken system and devastation you have created," Solyalı said, arguing that the findings confirm a widespread lack of trust in state institutions. According to the report, the TRNC ranks 140th out of 180 countries in corruption perception. In comparison, South Cyprus ranks 46th, while Turkey stands at 107th.
Solyalı noted that the report indicates a strong public perception that bribery and corruption are highly prevalent. He emphasized the need to strengthen independent oversight bodies, empower civil society organizations, and implement public sector reforms.
