Dimitriou: Geneva Meeting a Critical Turning Point

Annita Dimitriou, Speaker of the House of Representatives and leader of DISY, has described the upcoming informal five-party meeting in Geneva on March 17-18 as a critical turning point in efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue.

According to Fileleftheros, speaking at an event yesterday, Dimitriou emphasized that the forthcoming meeting presents an opportunity to restart negotiations and return to the dialogue table, stressing their responsibility to do everything possible to facilitate this process.
Dimitriou also claimed that the events of 1974 permanently altered the course of Cyprus, asserting that despite the hardships endured, the Greek Cypriot people have never ceased their struggle and continue to hope for a free and reunified homeland.
Meanwhile, Alithia reported that in a separate event, Dimitriou highlighted DISY’s priority of deepening defense cooperation between southern Cyprus and Western countries. She underlined the importance of national security in an increasingly complex and ever-changing geopolitical landscape, emphasizing the need for strategic thinking and preparedness.
Touching on the Cyprus issue and the Geneva meeting, Dimitriou stated that the outcome of the talks will determine whether a clear roadmap for substantive negotiations will emerge or if the process will collapse before it even begins.
She further described UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ initiative as a significant opportunity for the resumption of meaningful dialogue, calling it a window of opportunity that must be seized with determination.
