Fedonos: Turkish Cypriot Properties Used as Roads in Paphos Without Expropriation Since 1948

Paphos Mayor Fedonas Fedonos has revealed that various Turkish Cypriot properties in Paphos have been occupied and converted into roads without expropriation since 1948.

Fedonos made this statement in response to criticism regarding the municipality’s handling of Turkish Cypriot properties, emphasizing that the value of such properties is estimated to be around one billion euros.
According to Fileleftheros, which described the situation as a "banana republic with evidence," Fedonos made these remarks during discussions on a proposed law aimed at ensuring a more transparent and equitable management of Turkish Cypriot properties. He pointed out that along "Aphrodite Avenue" in Paphos, 24 small Turkish Cypriot properties, ranging from 16 to 200 square meters in size, have existed since 1948 without being expropriated.
Addressing criticism that the municipality administers approximately 160 Turkish Cypriot properties—23 of which are along the Paphos-Chrysopou road—Fedonos responded: "For better or worse, Turkish Cypriot properties have been occupied and turned into roads without expropriation since 1948. The section of the Polis-Chrysopou road passing in front of the police station was also not expropriated between 1974 and 2017. And now the Paphos Municipality is being criticized for possessing a large number of Turkish Cypriot properties, many of which are invaluable."
Fedonos further stated that the value of unexpropriated plots used for roads and other projects is estimated to be around one billion euros.
