Erhürman Comments on Isias Hotel Trial
A- A A+

During yesterday's hearing, although the hotel owner's statements were lengthy, Erhürman summarized it as, "When we built this building, we took every kind of care and diligence, even beyond what was necessary," and "This is an earthquake; there was nothing to be done," but emphasized that looking at the hotel and other buildings nearby might reveal a different picture.

Erhürman pointed out that many buildings near Isias remained standing, and the level of casualties did not originate from any of those buildings, contradicting the claim of "going beyond care and diligence."

Regarding statements about permits, Erhürman highlighted the conflicting expressions, stating, "Clearly, there is no care and diligence," and alluded to the collapse and the transformation into a pile of sand.

Erhürman mentioned the impossibility of forming a "triangle of life" in the rubble, referring to the statement of Osman Akın, the father of Doruk and Alp Akın, who emphasized the constant reference to "material truth" in the trial, stating, "The material truth is my two children not being here, due to your failure to show sufficient care and diligence," emphasizing its profound significance.

Stressing the importance of today for bringing the events to life in the eyes of the court, Erhürman said, "On February 6th, we lost our children. Nothing will alleviate our pain, but ensuring the manifestation of justice is our responsibility to our children."
