Path of Independence: British Bases in Cyprus are a Disgrace to Humanity

Salih Hayaloğlu, the Secretary of Foreign Relations for BY, called the British bases in Cyprus a disgrace to humanity and urged Britain to withdraw from the island.

Hayaloğlu pointed out that following the bombing of the Iranian Embassy in Damascus by Israel, Iran retaliated with an attack on Israel last night, indicating that aircraft taking off from British bases in Cyprus were involved in the conflict between Iran and Israel. He emphasized that as Cyprus is increasingly drawn into a regional war, it will continue to be targeted and its people will be put in vital danger against a possible attack as long as it is used as a military base.

Stressing the need for joint struggle regardless of the type of solution sought by the people of Cyprus against the presence of military bases and their use as a tool for regional conflicts and wars, Hayaloğlu argued that meaningful solidarity to support oppressed peoples could only be achieved through struggle against the military bases in the country.

Hayaloğlu stated:

"As BY, we call on all regional peoples to stand against the state of Israel and its greatest supporter, US imperialism; we urge the peoples of the region to join forces to rid our lands of foreign bases that have long been a threat to the peoples of our region, for the establishment of peace, tranquility, and brotherhood in the Middle East."
