Naimoğulları: If People Want Cheap Meat, It's the Duty of the Economy Minister

Naimoğulları emphasized that if people want cheap meat, it's the duty of the Economy Minister. The Association of Animal Producers and Breeders held a protest and press release in front of the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, leaving a black wreath at the ministry's door.

In his statement during the protest, Mustafa Naimoğulları criticized Minister Hüseyin Çavuş for allowing the import of meat to enable the public to eat cheaply.

Naimoğulları stated that it is not the duty of Çavuş to do this and said, "The Minister of Agriculture announced that he allowed the import of meat for the public to eat cheaply. His duty is not this. His duty is to protect the rights of livestock breeders. If the public wants to eat cheap meat, it's the duty of the Economy Minister."

Naimoğulları's full statement is as follows:

"We beg the butchers, saying we have animals left, and even then, we can't get appointments. You need to make a statement about this in the Council of Ministers. You gather behind closed doors, what are you doing there? The public, the producers, the livestock breeders are waiting for a solution. Minister of Agriculture Çavuş announced that he allowed the import of meat for the public to eat cheaply... This is not his duty. His duty is to protect the rights of livestock breeders. It is to pay the producer's milk price on time. If the public wants to eat cheap meat, it's the duty of the Economy Minister. It is the duty of the Minister of Agriculture to solve the problems of livestock breeders. We express our problems, and you say Koop-Süt is bankrupt... What do we care? The price of live animals has not changed for a year. You don't reflect this on the market, but you say the livestock breeders should pay the price. It's as if the livestock breeders are guilty, we are not guilty. We ask you to control those who exploit the people, but this has not happened for months. There is no price control or label control!"
