Serdal Gündüz, the general secretary and shareholder of Cyprus Health and Social Sciences University (KSTU), and his assistant Berk Özbek, who were detained and tried under this investigation, received an interim ruling in their initial hearing.

The court has ordered the case to be transferred to the Nicosia High Criminal Court, which will hold a session on August 12.

During the initial investigation hearing, a total of eight witnesses were heard, with the eighth witness, Investigation Officer Ortunç Özbaylı, presenting a total of 50 pieces of evidence to the court.

The session, overseen by Judge Gülay Süleymanoğlu Uğur, included Prosecutor Damla Güçlü for the prosecution and defense attorneys for the accused.

Judge Uğur clarified that initial investigation hearings are not trials but criminal prosecutions meant to prevent the accused from being tried for a distorted purpose. She found sufficient evidence for the accused to be tried in a high criminal court, ordering their case to be transferred for a session on August 12, 2024.

The accused face charges including "fraudulent obtaining of money," "fraud," "forgery and circulation of forged documents," "account manipulation and fraud," "money laundering," "inducing a payment order," and "theft by an employee."

The defendants are charged with a total of 98 offenses.
