Cooperation Protocol Signed to Monitor Sea Water Quality

A cooperation protocol has been signed between the Deputy Prime Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment and the Ministry of Health in Northern Cyprus to monitor and analyze sea water quality across the country. The protocol aims to protect public health and prevent pollution in sea waters.

Deputy Prime Minister Fikri Ataoğlu and Health Minister Hakan Dinçyürek signed the protocol, which is intended to support the Clean Beach Project and regularly inform the public about sea water quality. The signing ceremony took place at the Hakan Ataöv Conference Hall within the Deputy Prime Ministry.

During his speech at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Ataoğlu highlighted public concerns during the summer about the suitability of sea waters for swimming, emphasizing the continuous monitoring of wastewater discharge into the sea through the Continuous Wastewater Monitoring System of the Environmental Protection Department.

Minister Dinçyürek emphasized the importance of a healthy environment for public health, stating that both ministries will conduct tests at various points and promptly share transparent results with the public. He assured the public of the safety of using beaches while also warning about necessary precautions.

Moreover, Dinçyürek confirmed that sea water quality at all beaches complies with international standards, based on recent tests conducted at over 100 different locations nationwide. He stressed the significance of this compliance for both public health and tourism.

The protocol includes joint sampling by the Environmental Protection Department and delivery of samples to the Ministry of Health for rapid analysis and public disclosure. Dinçyürek also mentioned that this collaboration will extend beyond sea water quality to enhance cooperation in environmental and public health issues.

In conclusion, the signing of this protocol marks a significant step towards ensuring cleaner and safer sea waters in Northern Cyprus, aiming to promote a healthier environment and a better quality of life.
