The case involved a break-in at Sülkem Simit Evi, a local shop in Nicosia. B.D. was found guilty of breaking into the shop through a window at around 3:50 a.m., stealing 12,000 TL from the cash register, and causing 2,000 TL in damage while taking a camera recording device valued at 5,000 TL.

B.D. faced charges of “burglary,” “theft,” and “trespassing” at the Nicosia Assize Court. Presiding Judge Tutku Candaş, who delivered the ruling, highlighted that the offense of burglary, which carries a potential sentence of up to seven years, has become increasingly common.

Despite being only 17, the defendant had three prior convictions for burglary and had not compensated the victim, which were considered aggravating factors. However, the court also took into account the defendant’s young age and the fact that he had been in custody for the past eight months while awaiting trial.

After considering all factors, the court sentenced B.D. to two years in prison.
