Ünal Üstel Re-Elected as UBP Leader with 65.8% of the Vote

The 23rd Congress of the National Unity Party (UBP) took place at the Atatürk Sports Hall in Nicosia, where Ünal Üstel was re-elected as the party's leader. Üstel secured 6,555 votes, representing 65.8% of the vote in a congress where 10,134 members participated.

The congress, which began on Saturday, lasted nearly 20 hours and concluded at 6:45 AM on Sunday. Üstel, upon the announcement of the results, declared, "The congress is over," and expressed gratitude to his supporters, shedding tears during his speech.

Üstel's main opponent, Hasan Taçoy, received 3,284 votes, while Ahmet Karavelioğlu garnered 121 votes. Additionally, 174 votes were declared invalid.

The voting process was initially set to end at 9:00 PM on Saturday but was extended until midnight, leading to a delay in counting. Vote counting began at 12:30 AM and continued until 6:45 AM. After the announcement, Hasan Taçoy congratulated Üstel and left the venue.
