In his social media statement, Toros noted that the new initiative offers a fresh approach to breaking the deadlock that has persisted since the 2017 failure of the Crans-Montana conference.

According to Toros, the two-stage roadmap prepared by the UN Secretary-General aims to pave the way for a comprehensive political agreement. A mutual understanding has been reached to organize an expanded informal meeting with the participation of the guarantor countries on a near date set by Guterres.

Toros also highlighted that the leaders have agreed to meet in Cyprus to discuss confidence-building measures, including additional crossing points. He emphasized that Guterres reiterated his commitment to a peaceful solution and stressed that confidence-building measures on issues like energy, the climate crisis, health, natural disasters, and socio-economic needs will play a significant role across the island.

He reiterated that freedom of movement is a fundamental right, and socio-cultural and commercial cooperation between communities is essential for the peace process. Toros described the outcomes of the informal meeting at the UN as positive, reaffirming that a bi-communal, bi-zonal, politically equal federal solution remains the only realistic model.

Finally, Toros emphasized that it is the leaders' minimum responsibility to create the political environment necessary for results-oriented negotiations to continue.
