Siber on Tripartite Meeting: 'No Positive Atmosphere Yet'
A- A A+

Speaking about the informal dinner hosted by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, attended by President Ersin Tatar and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides, Siber highlighted that while a dialogue has begun, there has not been significant progress.

Emphasizing that dialogue is essential for resolving the stalemate, Siber remarked, "There is no positive atmosphere yet," underscoring the ongoing lack of optimism in the negotiations.

'Progress on Property Issue Will Contribute to Solution of Cyprus Problem'

Siber, appearing on Kıbrıs Postası TV's 'Sabah Postası' program hosted by Gökhan Altıner, stated that even small steps could reflect positively and help in finding common ground, adding, "As long as there is a genuine desire for a solution." She stressed that the property issue is fundamental to the Cyprus problem and that progress on this front could significantly contribute to resolving the broader conflict.

'Merit is Ignored in the Upper Echelons of the State'

Siber also addressed concerns about meritocracy, noting that merit is disregarded in the higher levels of government. She pointed out that foreign investors in South Cyprus have faced politically motivated detentions, stating, "Political decisions are influential on the Greek Cypriot side as well."

'Growing Distrust in Politics'

Highlighting the growing distrust in politics, Siber suggested that if there is to be an early general election, those advocating for change should commit to forming a technocratic government. She emphasized that voter turnout has decreased in recent elections, reflecting growing public disillusionment with politics.

Siber also touched upon the decline in purchasing power in the country, emphasizing that making life more affordable is not simply about raising the minimum wage.
