Police Inspections in Famagusta, Kyrenia, and Omorfo: Speeding and Drunk Driving Top the List

Simultaneous law enforcement and traffic inspections were conducted in Famagusta, Kyrenia, and Omorfo yesterday evening. These inspections highlighted speeding and driving under the influence as the leading traffic violations.

According to a statement from the Police Press Office, between 8:00 PM and midnight, various locations were checked, including entertainment venues, places selling alcoholic beverages, nightclubs, and crowded public areas.

In Famagusta, during the inspections, one person was arrested for illegal residency, having been found living in the area without the proper legal status. In the casinos, 16 individuals who were banned from entering or being present were identified, and legal actions were taken against them.

Traffic inspections led to the checking of 2,648 drivers. Among them, 208 were reported for speeding, one for driving under the influence of alcohol, 46 for using mobile phones while driving, 12 for not wearing seat belts, and 39 for driving without the necessary registration. A total of 441 drivers were reported for various traffic offenses, and 39 vehicles were impounded.

In Kyrenia, inspections were carried out in entertainment venues, places selling alcohol, and areas where the public gathers. Five people were arrested for residing illegally in the country. In casinos, 25 individuals were found in violation of the law, and legal actions were initiated.

Kyrenia traffic inspections involved 890 drivers. Of those, 90 were cited for speeding, 10 for driving under the influence, 4 for driving without a license or insurance, 7 for using mobile phones while driving, 8 for not wearing seat belts, and 10 for driving uninsured vehicles. A total of 222 drivers were reported for various traffic violations, and 14 vehicles were impounded. One driver was arrested.

In Omorfo, no negative findings were reported during the inspections of entertainment venues, places selling alcohol, betting offices, and crowded areas. Traffic inspections, however, resulted in 522 drivers being checked. Among them, 37 were cited for speeding, one for driving under the influence, 2 for driving without a license or insurance, 8 for using mobile phones while driving, 14 for not wearing seat belts, and 1 for riding a motorcycle without a helmet. A total of 94 drivers were reported, and 7 vehicles were impounded.
