Erhürman: "This is Not an Act of Protest, But the Application of Parliamentary Law"
Republican Turkish Party (CTP) leader Tufan Erhürman stated that there is no legitimately elected Speaker in the Parliament. Speaking in Parliament, Erhürman emphasized that the only individual lawfully authorized to hold office is Deputy Speaker Fazilet Özdenefe, and he argued that Ziya Öztürkler’s claim to the position lacks legal standing.
Erhürman criticized Öztürkler, a UBP Member of Parliament, for instructing parliamentary staff, stating that these directives hold no validity due to Öztürkler’s unlawful status. He accused Öztürkler of coercing parliamentary staff into illegal actions and stressed that CTP will continue to defend Parliament’s integrity. "We do not recognize someone merely occupying that seat as the Speaker," Erhürman said, adding that no MP has the right to validate this situation.
"This issue extends beyond CTP; it’s a matter that concerns all members who should also be protesting this situation," he asserted, underscoring that Öztürkler is not the Speaker. Erhürman described the pressure on parliamentary employees as an unlawful directive and called on the UBP to put forth a legitimate Speaker candidate. "Parliament must have a lawfully elected Speaker. The authority to preside over sessions rests solely with Fazilet Özdenefe," he concluded. "This is not an act of protest, but the rightful application of parliamentary law."
