11 Fires Cause Damage Totalling 190,000 TL
Last week, 11 fires occurred across the TRNC, causing an estimated 190,000 TL in damages. Authorities also reported 20 additional incidents requiring special services.
One of the fires took place early this morning in Yeşilyurt, where an electrical short circuit likely caused by an extension cord powering a washing machine sparked a blaze in a workers' dormitory. Fire crews extinguished the flames.
The fire damaged a washing machine, a refrigerator, four beds and mattresses, a wardrobe, kitchen countertops, three wooden doors, 25 beams, and various kitchen items. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Police issued a statement attributing the fires to potential causes such as electrical short circuits, discarded cigarettes, the ignition of oil residue in chimneys, and intentional or accidental burning. Instances included cigarette butts falling onto furniture and fire set for cleaning purposes.
Special service incidents included rescuing individuals trapped on balconies, in elevators, or following traffic accidents. Emergency responders also rescued animals such as cats stuck in trees, dogs and lambs that had fallen into wells, and animals trapped between pallets or within vehicle engine compartments. Other services included fire prevention training, implementing fire safety measures, and transporting deceased individuals to hospitals for legal investigation purposes.
