Tatar: No Agreement in Cyprus if Greek Cypriots Refuse to Face Reality
TRNC President Ersin Tatar sent a clear message to the Greek Cypriot Administration, stating that "if you refuse to see the reality, there will be no agreement in Cyprus." Tatar emphasized that while peace exists on the island, a resolution based on sovereign equality is necessary for any agreement to be reached.
Tatar explained, "If the Greek Cypriot Administration continues to refuse to acknowledge the sovereign equality of the Turkish Cypriots, the status of two equal states, and insists on the withdrawal of Turkish forces and renouncing Turkey’s rights, then no agreement will be possible on this island."
During his meeting with 2nd Army Commander General Levent Ergün, who arrived to participate in the Republic Day celebrations on November 15, President Tatar reiterated that peace can only be achieved through mutual understanding and recognition of equality between the two sides.
General Ergün: Turkish Armed Forces Will Not Tolerate Any Facts on the Ground in Cyprus
In his speech, General Ergün stated that it was a special occasion to be in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus on such a meaningful day and extended his congratulations on the 41st anniversary of the republic's founding. He also reaffirmed Turkey's commitment to the Turkish Cypriots, saying, "The Turkish Armed Forces have never allowed faits accomplis in Cyprus, and we will not allow them in the future. As always, we will continue to stand by the Turkish Cypriots."
President Tatar: We Are Working Together with Turkey for the Sovereignty, Freedom, and Equality of the Turkish Cypriots
President Tatar expressed his pride and happiness in hosting General Ergün, underlining the significance of the 41st anniversary of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). He recalled the 50th anniversary of the Peace Operation on July 20, 1974, stating, "The importance of the Motherland, the Homeland, and the Blue Homeland is clear."
Tatar also reflected on the historical process leading up to the establishment of the TRNC, noting that the founding of the TRNC under the leadership of the late founding president Rauf Raif Denktaş marked the declaration of independence and freedom for Turkish Cypriots.
Tatar concluded, "We established this state based on the right to sovereignty, and from that day forward, together with the Motherland Turkey, we have worked for the sovereignty, freedom, and equality of the Turkish Cypriots. The TRNC is the gateway to the Mediterranean for the entire Turkish world. It is a great success story, and I am proud of it. The TRNC walks forward with Turkey with steady steps. If the South continues to refuse to face reality, if it refuses to accept the sovereign equality of the Turkish Cypriots and the status of two equal states, and insists on the withdrawal of Turkish forces and renouncing Turkey’s rights, then there will be no agreement on this island. Peace exists on this island, and only an agreement remains to be made."
