Atlı: “Neither Our Leader Nor CTP Can Afford Such Polemics”
Former leader of the Social Democracy Party (TDP) and current Central Executive Committee (MYK) member, Mine Atlı, criticized the ongoing dispute surrounding the opposition's alleged support for Ziya Öztürkler's election as Parliament Speaker.
Speaking on Gündem, a program hosted by Ulaş Barış on Kıbrıs Postası TV, Atlı stated, “Neither our leader nor the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) can afford such polemics.”
Atlı expressed disappointment over the tensions between TDP and CTP, emphasizing the need to focus on upcoming political challenges, particularly the presidential elections. She warned that such disputes divert attention from crucial priorities.
“Focus Should Be on Preparing for Political Challenges”
Atlı noted that while TDP has not yet decided on its stance for the presidential elections, the party expects a two-round election and intends to support a candidate favoring a federal solution in the second round.
Highlighting the importance of constructive criticism, Atlı remarked, “We criticize not only the government but also the opposition, which helps improve their performance.”
“Transparency and Collaboration Are Crucial”
Atlı also addressed CTP leader Tufan Erhürman’s recent meeting with Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, calling for greater transparency. “CTP should have involved us as stakeholders by sharing details of the meeting and its outcomes with the public,” she said.
She reiterated the need for collaboration among political organizations, stating, “We must set aside efforts to undermine one another and instead work together to empower the silent majority.”
Atlı urged citizens to participate actively in elections, saying, “Vote for the party that aligns most closely with your views and ensure they are represented in Parliament.”
