Speaking on Hakikat Web TV, Erhürman criticized the government's policies and addressed claims that CTP had urged support for Ziya Öztürkler as Parliamentary Speaker, dismissing them as entirely unfounded.

Erhürman clarified that CTP had consistently declared it would not support Öztürkler, stating, “We had expressed readiness to support a candidate agreed upon through consultation, but this was not the case for Öztürkler.”

"A Governance Crisis, Not Just a Government Crisis"

Erhürman described the parliamentary deadlock as a reflection of a broader governance crisis within the ruling UBP-DP-YDP coalition. He noted that despite claiming the support of 29 MPs, the government failed to secure this backing even after 16 voting rounds.

“This situation reveals the internal power struggles within the government,” Erhürman said, accusing the administration of using social media campaigns to deflect attention from its failures.

"Loss of Agency in Foreign Policy"

The CTP leader criticized President Ersin Tatar's approach to foreign policy, asserting that it had rendered the Turkish Cypriot community ineffective on the international stage.

“Under former leaders like Denktaş and Eroğlu, we could understand their positions even if we disagreed. Now, it is impossible to comprehend Tatar’s stance,” Erhürman said, citing Tatar’s visit to Brussels to meet journalists as an example of ineffective diplomacy.

Call for Early Elections

Highlighting worsening economic and social issues, Erhürman reiterated the need for early elections. “Traffic accidents, workplace incidents, rising crime rates, and economic instability all stem from governance failures. The solution is clear: early elections are a necessity,” he declared.

Erhürman concluded by reaffirming CTP’s commitment to dialogue and being a strong voice for solutions, stating, “We need to open our doors to the world. Closing them is not an option.”
