Representatives from around 40 tourism agencies working with SunExpress in the German market visited the TRNC to attend a workshop organized in collaboration with the TRNC Deputy Prime Ministry’s Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment Ministry, and the Cyprus Turkish Tourism and Travel Agencies Association (KITSAB).

Speaking at the workshop held at Acapulco Hotel, Akançay underlined the importance of SunExpress adding flights from Antalya and Mersin to its existing routes from İzmir to the TRNC.

Akançay noted that SunExpress currently operates two daily flights from İzmir and Antalya to the TRNC, connecting these flights to London, Germany, and other European cities. He highlighted the substantial contribution these routes make to TRNC tourism.

Expanding Destination Network

Akançay stated that discussions with SunExpress officials focused on further developing the flight network. "We secured a commitment from SunExpress to explore collaborations on additional destinations," he said, stressing the need to increase slot availability at İzmir and Antalya airports to facilitate flights to more European cities.

"If we can expand the slots at İzmir and Antalya airports to enable easier travel to Europe, it would provide incredible opportunities for our country's tourism. We’ve agreed with SunExpress to work on connecting the TRNC to all European countries," Akançay added.
