Police Chief Kuni Addresses Incident in Neonatal Unit, Updates on Fake Diploma Investigation
Police Chief Kasım Kuni addressed questions regarding various ongoing investigations, including the incident in the neonatal unit. He clarified that the police had not issued any statements about the matter and denied advising the Health Minister against making a press release.
Kuni made these remarks during discussions on the Police General Directorate’s 6.3 billion TL budget in the Parliamentary Committee on Economy, Finance, Budget, and Planning.
He explained that the report involving the parliamentarian was returned to the police for revisions and would be resubmitted in a few days.
On the medication investigation, Kuni revealed that 18,000 statements have already been collected, with another 20,000 to follow. He estimated that the process would take an additional 6-7 months.
Kuni also mentioned efforts to address early retirement for police officers, requested a 50% increase in overtime compensation, and shared updates on ongoing infrastructure projects, including the introduction of body cameras in Nicosia and Kyrenia.
Regarding irregular migrants, Kuni stated that 85 individuals are currently housed in state facilities. He also addressed allegations related to labor exploitation in the citrus sector, stating that no criminal elements were identified but investigations into claims of human trafficking, threats, and assault continue.
