According to the TDP Press Office, the meeting was attended by Nicosia Turkish Municipality (LTB) Mayor Mehmet Harmancı, TDP Secretary-General Nevzat Özkunt, and Central Executive Board (MYK) members. The discussions focused on the issues, challenges, and demands faced by mukhtars in their regions.

Speaking at the event, TDP leader Zeki Çeler highlighted the critical role of mukhtars as a bridge between local communities and government authorities. "Politics has left people disillusioned, and politicians have failed to rebuild trust. Without the leadership we long for, achieving effective governance will remain difficult. Regardless of our differing political views, it is essential to work together. We have nowhere else to go—our fight is to make this place better," Çeler stated.

He called for sincerity and visibility among mukhtars, emphasizing their role in ensuring public engagement and voicing community needs.

Özkunt: New Leadership Needed

TDP Secretary-General Nevzat Özkunt underlined the importance of mukhtars as the closest representatives of the people to both local and central administrations. "Mukhtars are crucial in conveying the people's complaints and demands directly to authorities," he said.

Özkunt stressed the need for a fresh political approach and honest leadership. "The country needs a new political system and untainted leaders. Corruption and lawlessness are evident for all to see, and this does not suit the Turkish Cypriot people, who are modern and enlightened. Building this new structure is a shared responsibility. We are aware of the challenges mukhtars face, and we will do whatever is necessary to support them," he added.
