Trial of Ali Kişmir Postponed to December 6
The trial of Ali Kişmir, President of the Press Workers' Union (Basın-Sen), facing up to 10 years in prison over a social media post, has been postponed to December 6, 2024.
The case, stemming from a Facebook post alleged to have defamed the Security Forces Command (GKK), saw Lieutenant Colonel Cengiz Doğan testify as a witness. Doğan, who served as the director of the military officers' mess at the White House in 2020, claimed in court that the post undermined the reputation and moral standing of the GKK, one of the "most valuable and trustworthy institutions."
Ahead of the hearing, a large group gathered outside Nicosia District Court to show support for Kişmir.
