Greek Cypriot Journalists’ Union Supports Ali Kişmir
The Greek Cypriot Journalists’ Union (ESK) has voiced its support for Ali Kişmir, President of the Press Workers Union (Basın-Sen), who faces up to 10 years in prison over a social media post.
The union urged democrats throughout the country to take note of the trial, which commenced yesterday.
According to Haravgi, ESK highlighted that Kişmir is being prosecuted for his outspoken criticism of the TRNC security forces, accusing him of publishing a perspective challenging their authority.
The union reiterated its firm stance on press freedom, freedom of expression, and the right to voice diverse opinions. ESK stressed that this case is a significant test for democracy and press liberties, calling for broad solidarity and awareness.
