2 Dead, 24 Injured in 80 Accidents
Between November 18 and 24, 80 traffic accidents occurred in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), resulting in 2 fatalities and 24 injuries.
According to the Police Press Office, out of the 80 accidents, 1 was fatal, 16 resulted in injuries, and 63 caused property damage. The total damage from these accidents amounted to 5,288,205 TL.
The causes of the accidents were mostly related to speeding (23 accidents), failure to stop at intersections (18), careless driving (16), tailgating (13), and other factors (10). The highest number of accidents occurred in Kyrenia (27), followed by Nicosia (26), Famagusta (16), Iskele (6), and Morphou (5).
During the same period, traffic police conducted checks on 13,459 drivers, with 2,525 drivers being reported for violations. A total of 253 vehicles were impounded, and 9 drivers were arrested.
The breakdown of the most common violations includes speeding (725 offenses), mobile phone use while driving (222), failure to comply with traffic signs (151), and driving without insurance or an inspection certificate (65). Other violations involved alcohol impairment (73), seatbelt non-use (70), and dangerous driving (25).
The police continue to monitor and enforce traffic regulations to improve road safety.
