Çeviköz: Turkey Believes Federation Solution to Cyprus Issue Is Over
Former diplomat and CHP (Republican People's Party) Member of Parliament, Ünal Çeviköz, stated that Turkey believes the federation solution to the Cyprus issue has ended, and that different solutions may come to the table in future negotiations.
In an interview with the Cyprus News Agency (KİPE), Çeviköz expressed his views on the Cyprus problem.
He argued that if it is made clear that the negotiations will have a definitive end date, with no open-ended process, Turkey would be open to beginning negotiations. Çeviköz emphasized that, following the talks at Crans-Montana, Turkey recognized that the two-community, two-zone federation solution was no longer viable and that a new approach to solving the issue must be found.
