Turkey: Greek Cypriot NATO Membership Bid "Unacceptable"
Turkey’s Ministry of National Defense has declared the Greek Cypriot Administration's bid for NATO membership as unacceptable.
Speaking during a weekly press briefing, ministry officials addressed questions regarding Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides’ NATO membership initiatives.
The ministry emphasized that NATO expansion decisions require unanimity and must consider the national security concerns of all member states.
“Turkey, as a NATO member, underscores that any enlargement must be conducted with sensitivity to the national security concerns of all allies. Under current circumstances, the Greek Cypriot Administration's NATO membership bid is unacceptable for Turkey. Such an initiative would disrupt the delicate balance in the Cyprus issue and negatively impact negotiations toward a resolution,” the statement read.
