Ertuğruloğlu Opposes Opening New Crossing Points
TRNC Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu expressed his opposition to the idea of opening new crossing points, stating that the existing nine are sufficient.
Speaking at the Budget and Planning Committee meeting, Ertuğruloğlu argued that increasing the number of crossing points would make the concept of a "border" meaningless.
He also pointed out that the current congestion at the crossing points is not due to the number of gates but is a result of practices by the Greek Cypriot side. Ertuğruloğlu emphasized that the issue is not solely economic but also has security implications, noting that there is no agreement on the island, not even a ceasefire agreement, only a de facto ceasefire. He added, "We are in such a sensitive region that all countries act according to their own interests here."
