Erhürman: Resolving the Cyprus Issue Key to Connecting TC's with the World
Leader of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP), Tufan Erhürman, has emphasized that the path for the Turkish Cypriot community to integrate with the international community lies in resolving the Cyprus issue.
Speaking on Haber Kıbrıs Web TV, Erhürman reiterated his call for early elections, criticizing the current administration for its failures. "Removing this mindset would be the best thing for this country," he said, pointing to the inefficacy of governance.
Highlighting the Cyprus problem, Erhürman stressed that its only viable solution is a "bi-communal, bi-zonal federation based on political equality." He added, "CTP has always sought to connect the Turkish Cypriot people with the world. We applaud any effort, from anyone, that opens such a window."
He also addressed the participation of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in the Organization of Turkic States, acknowledging progress but noting issues with its status: "While being invited as an ‘honored guest’ is a positive gesture, the term ‘guest’ highlights the lack of a solid status. True integration with the world requires a solution to the Cyprus issue."
Erhürman criticized the current administration’s policies, including mismanagement in education, health, and infrastructure, attributing many issues to uncontrolled population growth. He stressed the importance of conducting a population census and planning accordingly, adding that the government has failed to address economic challenges effectively.
"The structural problems in traffic, health, and education stem from population issues. Addressing these requires strategic planning, yet this administration leaves behind a growing burden for its successor," Erhürman stated.
He also reiterated the need for Turkish Cypriots to present their resolution efforts globally, emphasizing their willingness for peace and coexistence. "The Turkish Cypriot people's path to a secure and dignified future is intertwined with achieving a solution under the UN framework," he concluded.
